Vaughan brings more than 35 years of experience as a mechanical services technician and sales engineer across the mining, hydro, and coal power industries. He is a Certified ISO Oil & Gas Pipeline Repair Supervisor and holds qualifications in Mechanical, Electrical, and Building & Construction disciplines. Throughout his career, he has developed extensive expertise in preparing work scopes, specifications, and managing complex, multi-million-dollar projects. Combined with advanced computer graphics and drafting capabilities, Vaughan is committed to delivering exceptional value, service, and quality that consistently exceeds client expectations.
His journey into energy-efficient home design began when he and his wife set out to build their own highly efficient home. After consulting numerous high-end builders, Vaughan discovered that many either lacked the knowledge to design and construct genuinely energy-efficient homes or had extensive waiting lists stretching several years. This experience inspired him to undertake extensive research into global best practices for sustainable residential construction.
Over several years, Vaughan studied Passive House principles developed in Europe, advanced insulation techniques used in North America, and energy-efficient building methodologies from around the world. Armed with this knowledge, he collaborated with architects, structural engineers, energy consultants, and specialist manufacturers to design and build his own bespoke energy-efficient home. The project incorporated a steel-frame structure, expansive north-facing glazing, and modern building technologies to create a home that is exceptionally comfortable, highly functional, and remarkably economical to heat and cool.
During the construction process, Vaughan was invited to apply these principles to a conventional four-bedroom, 26-square family home. By integrating passive design strategies and overseeing the project, he helped deliver a significantly higher-quality home for only approximately $30,000 more than standard volume-builder quotations. The result was a comfortable, energy-efficient residence with substantially reduced heating and cooling costs, and a highly satisfied homeowner.
This success became the catalyst for establishing Passive & Energy Efficient Home Designs.
Vaughan is passionate about helping homeowners understand the benefits of designing beyond minimum compliance standards. While current Australian building standards focus on achieving a 7-Star energy rating, Vaughan advocates for higher-performance homes that align more closely with international Passive House standards. Although such homes may require an additional investment of approximately 15–25%, the reduced energy costs can often recover that investment within a few years while providing superior comfort, healthier indoor environments, and long-term sustainability benefits.
Today, Vaughan continues to design and support innovative residential projects, including homes utilising insulated panel cladding and roofing systems that maximise energy efficiency without excessive construction costs.
His goal is to help clients create beautiful, comfortable, and environmentally responsible homes that they can enjoy for generations while reducing their carbon footprint.

WHY BUILD A PASSIVE (ENERGY EFFICIENT) HOME ?
Based on available data the average cost in 2024 in Victoria for an all electric Household, family of 4 is $2,950.00 pa.
Based on spiraling energy cost increases we could see a typical average home electricity cost of +$10,000.00 per annum in the next 5 years.
Based on The Australian Bureau of Statistics data electricity costs increased in households from 2003 to 2013 by 72%. In 2022 this jumped another 14% and is predicted at 40% in 2029.
Help reduce the carbon footprint, the environment, live in a beautiful and comfortable home and control your energy cost.
While an Energy Efficient Designed home will add 10-15% on a standard built cost it can pay itself off in around 5 years and put you well in front for the future.
